Much has been said about the esoteric meanings of the pentagon. But they pale into significance before the light of its mathematical potency, as revealed by the tetractys. Divided into its sectors, the pentagon is composed of 21 corners, sides & triangles. This is the number value of EHYEH (Hebrew: AHIH), the Godname of Kether. The value 1 of A (aleph) denotes the centre, the value 5 of H (heh) denotes the five corners, the value 10 of I (yod) denotes the ten sides and the value 5 of the second letter H denotes the five triangles. When its sectors are tetractyses, the pentagon contains 31 yods. This is the number value of EL (Hebrew: אל, meaning "God"), the Godname of Chesed. The value 1 of E (aleph) denotes the centre and the value 30 of L (lamed) denotes the 30 yods surrounding it.
A triangular number is one that can be represented by a triangular array of dots, each denoting the number 1. For example, 1 is the first triangular number, 3 (=1+2) is the second triangular number and 10 (=1+2+3+4) is the fourth triangular number, i.e., the tetractys is its representation. 496 is the 31st triangular number because it is the sum of the first 31 integers. This shows how EL prescribes the number of particles that mediate the unified superstring force. The Godname YAH (Hebrew: YH) with number value 15 prescribes the number 496 because it is generated by assigning the integers 1-31 to the yods in a pentagon, the boundary of which has 15 yods. The letter values Y = 10 and H = 5 in YH denote the ten hexagonal yods and the five corners on its sides. The true significance of the pentagon is that it arithmetically embodies the mysterious number 496 at the heart of superstring theory. Kabbalistically speaking, this number is no mystery at all, for it is the number value of Malkuth, the final Sephirah of the Tree of Life, denoting the material universe.
