The Hypolydian mode:
T T S T T T T S
is the Pythagorean scale with the Pythagorean interval and leimma replaced by the tone (T) and semitone (S) of the equal-tempered scale. It is the C scale, that is, it is the scale that results if one starts with note C in the basic sequence of eight notes:

The modes are traditionally numbered 1-8, odd numbers referring to authentic modes and even numbers to their plagal counterparts. Notice that Mode 8 (Hypomixolydian) has the same sequence of notes as the Dorian Mode. This means that the eight church musical modes comprise seven distinct octave species.
