#14 Correspondence between the Sri Yantra and the 64 hexagrams
The tetractys reveals the remarkable equivalence of the Sri Yantra and the I Ching table of
64 hexagrams:
Sri Yantra |
I Ching table |
Upper half |
Upper half Trigram of 3 green Yang lines. 21 black Yang & Yin lines in 7 upper trigrams in diagonal. 168 red Yang & Yin lines. |
Lower half |
Lower half Trigram of 3 pink Yang lines. 21 white Yang & Yin lines in 7 lower trigrams in diagonal. 168 blue Yang & Yin lines. |
384 yods in 43 triangles. | 384 Yang & Yin lines. |
The central bindu, or point, and the three corners of the central triangle can be regarded as corresponding to a pair of Yang & Yin lines and their three possible permutations: Yang-Yang, Yin-Yang & Yin-Yin. These are the "hsiang," the four "Emblematic Symbols" generated from the "Elementary Forms" of Yang and Yin (see page 2 in Article 19 (WEB, PDF)).
