#5 A correspondence between the outer Tree of Life and the 3-d Sri Yantra

(10+60) correspondence between Tree of Life & Sri Yantra

The Sri Yantra is generated by the overlapping of five downward-pointing, blue triangles expressing the cosmic feminine aspect of the process of creation (represented in Hinduism by the Goddess Shakti) and four upward-pointing, red triangles expressing the cosmic male principle (represented by her consort, the God Shiva). They generate a central triangle and four sets of 8, 10, 10 & 14 triangles, i.e., 87 corners of 43 triangles. 87 is the number value of Levanah, the Mundane Chakra of Yesod. Hence, 60 new corners of triangles are created from the nine parent triangles with 27 corners.

Compare this with the construction of the Tree of Life from tetractyses. In addition to the original 10 corners of its 16 triangles (denoted by black yods), there are 60 red hexagonal yods generated by transforming all the triangles into tetractyses. These new yods are the counterpart of the 60 new corners of triangles in the Sri Yantra created by the overlapping of the nine triangles that form it. This demonstrates the fact that, although having very different appearances, the Tree of Life and the Sri Yantra are equivalent, or isomorphic, having analogous properties quantified by the same numbers and displaying similar relationships between the latter.

The counterpart in a regular polygon of this increase by 60 structural units is the presence in the dodecagon of 60 hexagonal yods when its 12 sectors become tetractyses:

60 yods generated in the dodecagon

It is evidence that the dodecagon is the polygonal counterpart of the Tree of Life, so that it has a holistic status. This important assertion will be confirmed in many sections of the website. As the last of the seven types of regular polygons making up the inner form of the Tree of Life, the dodecagon has a unique character, being the polygon that par excellence embodies numbers characterising the E8×E8 heterotic superstring (e.g., see here) and the 421 polytope, whose 240 vertices represent the 240 roots of E8 (see here & here). The dodecagon expresses the Malkuth aspect of the microscopic Tree of Life, namely, the superstring. Composed of 73 yods, it embodies the number 73 of Chokmah ("Wisdom").
